This weekend, I had the opportunity to not only celebrate Mother’s Day with my mother and to be celebrated but I also took part in an amazing event that honored an amazing woman. Her motto, “do what you love, and love what you do.” As I prepare for my husband’s law school graduation and I look back on my own graduation from fellowship last year, there are many things that come to mind but a single question is this, “how did I get here?”
I started out with a vision of where I wanted to go.
Now, the road was not always straight but, I continued to travel in the right direction. Had I not known where I was going, I would have never known when I arrived, right? Kind of like driving directions, you must have a vision of where you want to go in order to get there.
Today’s #mentorMonday is simple, set a goal for yourself. While I am a strong advocate for higher education, I entertain any goal, as long as you have a plan to achieve it. So, decide what you want to be and if you have no answer after you ask yourself, what do I want to be when I grow up? Then try to envision yourself in 5 or 10 years. What does that person look like? If you still don’t know, ask someone to help you decide- your people might see the gift inside you that you can’t see for yourself. Next, put it on paper. And finally, plan a roadmap on how to get there.
